Nursing and medical staff are being exposed to passive inhalation of patient-expired relative analgesic gases. The exposure standard for Nitrous Oxide (N2O) is a time-weighted average of no more than 25ppm. Australian studies have found hospitals using Relative Analgesia (RA) apparatus without scavenging had measured levels much higher than 25ppm.
